Bunker Hill High School Social Studies teacher Mr. Doug Banwart was recently awarded a scholarship to attend Medal of Honor Legacy: Vietnam graduate teacher education program during the summer of 2019.
The program is scheduled to take place at the Center for American Values in Pueblo, Colorado over 5 days this June. The scholarship Mr. Banwart received was a value of $1,550 and covers the entire program tuition at a rate of 100%. Mr. Banwart, who currently teaches American History at BHHS, will attend the program, obtaining curriculum and resources to implement in his classroom, and will meet a Medal of Honor recipient from the Vietnam War.
At the regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting in February, the Bunker Hill CUSD #8 Board of Education presented Mr. Banwart with a “Board Salute” proclamation congratulating him on his scholarship and commending him for his dedication to continuous learning. At the meeting, Bunker Hill CUSD #8 Superintendent Todd Dugan stated, “We appreciate your willingness to continue learning in order to improve our students’ learning experiences, and admire your dedication. Bunker Hill is lucky to have you, and wish to say “Job well done!”
Mr. Banwart will complete the program during the week of June 16-21, 2019.
