Good evening, Bunker Hill families:
Today (Tuesday, March 17) was our first day of remote learning, and judging by all the shares on Facebook, it looks like we are making the most of it!
Over the last two days, I cannot tell you how much kindness and support I have seen from the teachers, staff and community of #BHill8. We are sharing these on social media with the hashtag #ILSchoolsStepUp if you would like to see some, and even add to it! By searching social media for this hashtag, you will see some truly heartwarming and inspirational stories about our students and staff engaging with each other and making the best of a less-than-ideal situation. After a long and exhausting day, it refills me with inspiration to look at these pictures.
While remote learning is occurring, meals continue to be delivered to our families. I’d like to remind you that these meals are available to any child over the next two weeks free of charge, regardless of free, reduced or paid status. In order to help us plan, please visit this link: http://bit.ly/2Qg3TBL These staff members and volunteers are arriving to help with delivery, and in order to prevent the spread of germs, we are monitoring and recording the health
We continue to monitor the latest guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Illinois Dept of Public Health (IDPH) as well as recommendations from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE.) If this statewide closure would be extended, we will communicate this to you as soon as possible. Please know that this is a rapidly evolving situation that has no precedent on which to look to for guidance.
For now, we will continue to monitor this situation closely, as well as monitor the health of our essential staff. Each morning, our school district nurse Christy Scott has been screening the temperatures of each food handler as they report to work each morning.
Again, I cannot thank everyone enough for their partnership with us as we navigate this public health crisis together. Typically in a crisis is where you see others’ true colors, and the colors I’ve seen this week have made me so proud!
Take great care, and stay healthy,
Todd
